Zahtar Turkish Spice Blend

Zahtar, which means "thyme" in Arabic, is a unique spice mixture that dates back over 2,000 years to Egypt, the Middle East, and ancient Greece and Rome. Mix with olive oil to make a paste and spread it flatbreads and lavash. Sprinkle it over dips, vegetables and savory stews.

Our version of this ancient blend includes a healthy amount of ground sumac, a red berry that's a type of wild pistachio. The tart flavor of the ground sumac complements the nutty flavor of the toasted sesame seeds and balances the herbal notes of the thyme and marjoram.
